Prompt 02.13
Yesterday, we reflected on unfinished stories—the things left unsaid, the unresolved moments that linger in the corners of our lives. But sometimes, what stays with us isn’t what was left unsaid—it’s what was spoken. A single sentence, tossed into the air, can settle deep inside us, shaping the way we see ourselves and the world.
Think back: Has someone ever said something to you—perhaps off-hand, perhaps intentional—that stuck with you far longer than they probably realized? A word of encouragement that lifted you at the right moment? A criticism that cut deep and stayed with you, even if the speaker forgot it the next day?
Our words ripple outward, often in ways we never see. That casual joke might linger as an insecurity. That simple affirmation might become the thing someone holds onto in a difficult time. Even silence—what we choose not to say—can be its own kind of message.
Consider your own voice. Has there been a time when you said something, only to realize later how much it mattered to someone? Or a time when you could have spoken, but didn’t?
Just like unfinished stories, our words don’t always land where we expect them to. But they always leave something behind.
Today, reflect on the words that have stayed with you—and the ones you are leaving behind for others.
What messages are you sending into the world?
