Stranded in Space and Time
Sometimes life throws you off script. This past week, I was unexpectedly stranded out of town for several days—away from my usual rhythm, responsibilities, and writing desk. And while I had plenty of time to think, I didn’t have the tools (or the quiet) to publish.
But in an odd way, that disruption gave me exactly what the last two prompts were pointing toward.
Language was a call to precision—to speak not just to be heard, but to clarify, connect, and see better. When you're stuck somewhere unfamiliar, suddenly language becomes survival: How do I explain what happened? Who do I ask for help? How do I name this experience so I don’t just get through it, but learn from it?
And Check-In—well, that one hit differently in the best way. Because I’ve had a good long stretch of truly tending to my mental and physical health, I was able to navigate a tricky, (read: amazingly inconvenient) situation without losing my cool. I can easily imagine past versions of myself that would’ve unraveled under the same pressure. But this time, I had the bandwidth. The patience. The perspective.
It reminded me that taking care of yourself isn’t just about feeling good in the moment. It’s an investment in resilience. You never know when you’ll need to draw down on those reserves—so it’s worth building them up while you can.
So yes, these posts are late. But the interruption reminded me why they matter. Systems get disrupted. Plans fall apart. The work is to keep showing up with clarity, care, and calm—even (especially) when things don’t go according to plan.
Thanks for your patience. Here’s to traveling well—internally and otherwise.
