Leeway
Prompt 09.19
Today’s question: How would your day change if you expected people to be human instead of perfect?
People slip. They rush, forget, and miss the mark. That does not decide your dignity or the tone you set. When you remember that others are fellow travelers, with needs, limits, and good intentions that don’t always show, you trade resentment for collaboration. You stay grounded, speak plainly, and make room for repair.
Why this helps: realistic expectations lower friction. You conserve energy for solutions, set clearer boundaries, and stay connected to what matters. Compassion and accountability can sit side by side; seeing someone’s humanity does not mean excusing harm.
Try this today:
Before your next interaction, write one cue line: (e.g., “Humans, not machines.”)
When irritation spikes, name the expectation you were holding.
Make a collaborative move: ask one clarifying question, make one specific request, or state one boundary without heat.
Notice the peace that follows choosing help over blame.
