Curiosity
Prompt 02.20
Reflecting on the past year, how has your sense of curiosity influenced your learning, growth, or exploration of new ideas? Were there moments when curiosity led you to unexpected discoveries or opportunities? In the year ahead, how can you cultivate a mindset of curiosity to continue expanding your horizons and embracing new experiences?
Curiosity is the spark that ignites growth, the quiet nudge that pushes us to ask questions, explore the unknown, and venture beyond our comfort zones. I’ve always found that curiosity has been both a guiding force and a source of unexpected joy. Often, it was the reason I picked up a new hobby, explored ideas I knew little about, and said “yes” to experiences that felt slightly out of reach.
Along the way, I began reading (and thinking) outside my field, diving into books, blogs, and podcasts. These explorations didn’t always directly apply to my day-to-day tasks, but they broadened my thinking and inspired fresh approaches to problem-solving. Curiosity doesn’t always need a clear purpose—it’s enough to let it lead you where it will, trusting that the journey itself is valuable.
Looking ahead, I want to cultivate a mindset of curiosity even more intentionally. Here are a few ways I plan to do that:
Ask more questions. Instead of accepting things at face value, I want to dig deeper. Why do I think this way? What assumptions am I making? What can I learn from someone else’s perspective?
Embrace the unfamiliar. Whether it’s trying a new food, visiting a place I’ve never been, or engaging with a topic I know nothing about, I want to lean into the discomfort of not knowing and see where it takes me.
Stay open to serendipity. Some of the best discoveries happen by accident. By staying curious and open, I hope to notice and seize opportunities that might otherwise pass me by.
Document the journey. Keeping a journal or notes—and blogging right here— about what I’m learning and experiencing can help me reflect on how curiosity shapes my growth over time.
Curiosity is a gift—one that keeps us humble, engaged, and forever growing. As I move into the year ahead, I want to nurture it like a flame, letting it light the way to new ideas, connections, and possibilities.
What about you? How has curiosity shaped your past year, and how will you invite more of it into your life?
